How does it work?

  • Download our mobile banking app to your smartphone
  • Login to mobile banking.  If you have not enrolled in online banking, you will need to set up an online banking account.
  • At the bottom of the home screen, tap the Mobile Deposit icon
  • Enter the amount of the check
  • Select the account to deposit the check (savings or checking) from the drop down arrow
  • In the Check Images box, tap the image “Tap to take photo”
  • The pop-up box will appear reminding you to properly endorse the back of the check.  Review. Click OK to proceed.
  • Choose to take a photo of the front of the check.  Place your check on a flat surface and line it up within the box. Click the white circle button to take a photo.
  • Take a photo of the back of the check
  • Review the check amount and the pictures
  • If the images are not clear pictures of the entire front and back of the check, you can retake the image(s).
  • After you review the information, “Submit” the deposit.
  • That’s it!  The Credit Union will review the deposit.  You can check whether the deposited items have been received and accepted or rejected by clicking the “View Deposit History” link.

Who is eligible to use Remote Deposit Capture?

Members in good standing with active accounts open for 90 days. 

What types of checks are NOT allowed to be deposited through Remote Deposit Capture?

The following types of checks are NOT eligible for Remote Deposit Capture:

  • US Treasury Checks (ex., income tax refund checks) are not accepted and must be brought into the branch.  All payee must be present and endorse (sign) the check while in the office in front of a Member Service Representative. 
  • Checks payable to any person or entity other than the person or entity that owns the account that the check is being deposited into.
  • Checks containing an alteration on the front of the check or item, or which you know or suspect, or should know or suspect, are fraudulent or otherwise not authorized by the owner of the account on which the check is drawn.
  • Checks payable jointly, unless deposited into an account in the name of all payees.
  • Checks previously converted to a substitute check or remotely created checks, as defined in Reg. CC.
  • Checks drawn on a financial institution located outside the United States.
  • Checks not payable in United States currency.
  • Checks dated more than 6 months prior to the date of deposit unless otherwise stated on the check (“stale-dated”).
  • Checks dated in the future (“post -dated”).
  • Checks payable on sight or payable through Drafts, including “on-us” checks, as defined in Regulation CC.
  • Checks with any endorsement on the back other than that specified in this agreement.
  • Checks signed over by a third party.
  • Checks that have previously been submitted through the Service or through a remote deposit capture service offered at any other financial institution.
  • Money Orders, Savings Bonds, Travelers Checks, Rebate Checks or Returned Checks are NOT eligible for this service.
  • 401(k) checks, Retirement Checks, Insurance Claim Checks and New York State Lottery Checks are NOT eligible for this service.
  • Checks that are incomplete.
  • Checks stamped with a “non-negotiable” watermark.
  • Any checks printed in light ink and do not reproduce a clear image will not be approved.
  • Checks that are in violation of any federal or state law, rule, or regulation.

How do I properly endorse a check for mobile deposit?

For the check to process, the back of the check must include:

Please note, some checks will have a small box printed on the back of the check that says mobile deposit.  Checking off this box is not the sufficient restrictive endorsement we require.  “For Mobile Deposit Only – SUNY Fredonia FCU” must still be legibly printed below your signature.

Tips and Tricks for taking a picture of the check

  • Do take the picture in a well-lit area
  • Do have a contrasting solid dark background with no glare and non-reflective surface
  • Do make sure all four corners of the check are visible and lined up within the white lines
  • Do not have shadows
  • Do not have anything but the check visible in the picture
  • Do not send a blurry picture
  • Make sure your camera lens is clean
  • The accurate MICR line information is captured in the image
  • Up-to-date mobile app software

Is there a fee associated with Remote Deposit Capture?

This service is free for members.  There is a fee for any returned deposit item.  Please review our current fee schedule.

What the deposit and transactions limits?

Maximum deposit amount per day is $2,500.  Maximum item count per day is 3.  Maximum deposit amount per month is $10,000.  The maximum item count per month is 20.

How long do I keep the original check(s) after completing a mobile deposit?

Once the item has been deposited into your account, you agree to securely store each check and retain the paper check for 90 calendar days.  AFTER you receive confirmation from the Credit Union that we have received, accepted and posted the item to your account, you agree to mark the item as “electronically presented” or “void.”  After 90 calendar days expires, you will destroy (shred) the original check. 

When will my mobile deposit be processed?

We reserve the right to place any applicable hold as regulated by Regulation CC on any item that is transmitted for deposit.  Funds that you deposit may be subject to review and our check hold policy.  Funds may not be available until the second business day after the day of your deposit.  If you make a deposit after 1pm EST during business hours or on a day we are not open, we may consider the deposit made on the next business day we are open.

What if my mobile deposit is rejected?

Rejected items will be displayed in your View Deposit History with the reason for rejection. Reasons that deposit items may be declined include:

  • Ineligible check
  • Non-negotiable
  • Missing signature
  • Missing endorsement
  • Stale dated
  • Post-dated
  • The check amount entered does not match the actual check amount
  • Duplicate check
  • Poor image quality
  • Deposit and/or transaction limits exceeded
  • Unacceptable item

What if a check I deposited via Remote Deposit Capture is returned unpaid?

You will be notified by the Credit Union that an item was returned.  In the event such an item is dishonored, the amount of the item will be debited from your account in addition to the Returned Deposit Item fee according to the Fee Schedule. 

Can I make loan payments using Remote Deposit Capture?

Mobile deposits can not be applied directly to a loan.  However, you can deposit the check into your account and then utilize online banking to perform a transfer from your savings or checking onto the loan.
